To prepare for the upcoming season, Clearview’s Varsity and JV baseball teams took a 12-hour trek by coach bus to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the spring Cal Ripken pre-season tournament. The team stayed in condos for five days, March 26-30, and played five games that did not count toward their normal record against teams from Tennessee, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Players didn’t get much down time; when they weren’t playing a game, they were practicing and eating home-cooked meals prepared by Clearview teacher, Mrs. Angela McEvoy. However, the team did get to take a break from baseball and spend a night at Broadway at the Beach, Myrtle Beach’s equivalent of a boardwalk.
According to junior TJ Dezzi, who plays on the Varsity team, the trip was beneficial to the team in more ways than one.
“The trip served many good purposes for our team,” Dezzi said. “First, we got 5 games in to warm up before we even started playing real games back at home. Also, it helped all the guys come together as a team and bond. Not to mention we got to go to the boardwalk and go swimming at the hotel. It really was just a great time and I believe we will be going back next year.”
