As professional photographers, Desiree and Stacy at Image is Everything Studios have clients in and out of their studio daily and tend to see the same milestones being photographed time and time again. Maternity sessions and newborn portraits are always captured. Parents photograph their babies first year of life and possibly each birthday following until they reach preschool.
“After that, we often don’t see these cuties again until their First Holy Communion or beyond. Parents rely on school and team sports portraits to be their yearly photo,” says Desiree.
“However, it’s these same families who stepped into the studio that first day we met and admired our framed family portraits. They complimented the beach sessions, hanging as gorgeous framed art throughout the studio. Our canvases highlight one clients’ growing family during the gorgeous fall months, and it’s finish is breathtaking. These families exclaimed that they’d be back, they wanted the same for their families. But alas, the babies grew into children and the family portrait was put off. Forgotten. Pushed to the wayside because life happened.”
In reality, the family portrait should be the MOST important thing. It’s so overlooked and undervalued. Research has shown that it is a large self-esteem boost for children to see themselves as a valued and important part of a family unit. It lets children learn who they are and where they fit. When your children see a family portrait with them included in the photograph, they say to themselves, ‘These people have me as part of what they are, that’s why I belong here. This is where I come from.’ – Krauss and Weiser – “Photo Therapy and Mental Health”
